Financial Assistance
Here are some helpful resources for parents looking for financial assistance from foundations and organizations. Please let us know of any additional opportunities that should be included.
NICA - The Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Association (NICA) was created by the Florida Legislature in 1988. NICA is a statutory organization that manages The Florida Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Plan which contains State funds used to pay for the care of infants born with certain neurological injuries. This Plan is available to eligible families statewide without litigation. By elimination costly legal proceedings, and through professional management of its disbursement, NECA ensures that birth-injured infants receive the care they need throughout their lifetime, while reducing the financial burden on medical providers and young families.
The McKay Scholarship - A state law called the McKay Scholarship for Students with Disabilities Program provides the parent of a student with disabilities to choose the school the student may attend.
To participate in the program for the school year:
- A student must have been enrolled and present for an entire year of public school in kindergarten through twelfth grade in any Florida public school.
- A student must be eligible for a program for students with disabilities and have an Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
- The parent must give the school district a Notice of Intent to participate.

New Hope for Kids - Children's Wish was founded as a not-for-profit charity to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses who have not yet reached their 18th birthday.
Unlike other wish granting organizations, Children’s Wish is not affiliated with a national organization, but is an independent, locally based charity. Because the organization was founded out of a need to help seriously ill children in Central Florida, the majority of its funds are reinvested in the local community.
Although the Children’s Wish is not able to cure the life-threatening illnesses of their wish children, it’s proud to grant wishes and provide follow-up support in order to lighten the burden for the children and their families, and improve the quality of time remaining in the child’s life.
Children from CECF have received over $10,000 from the Children's Wish program!! For more information contact Rosie Wilder, Program Director, Children's Wish at 407-629-8920 x308
